What Is Paleo Trail

Quickly and easily track your Paleo Diet online

It takes less than 5 minutes a day, and you’ll never have to look at a single calorie.

Who Should Use Paleo Trail?

I’m going to tell you right now that Paleo Trail isn’t for everyone. I understand that many of you want to track calories or macronutrients. If that’s you, then there are dozens of websites that you can use.

Paleo Trail is best for people who have already committed to eating Paleo and have a good understanding of what they should and shouldn’t be eating. It was built for people who want to track their diets without ever having to count a calorie. It’s for those who want something other than a conventional diet tracker.

Paper Food Journals Are Inconvenient

I first got the idea for Paleo Trail when I was doing a lot of food journaling. I have Hashimoto’s, hypothyroidism, and adrenal fatigue, and my practitioner asked me to track my diet in detail. We wanted to understand if my eating habits were having an impact on my health. I looked around online for a tool to use, but everything I found required exact portion measurements and calorie counting. So, I used pen and paper. I didn’t enjoy using a physical food journal for a couple reasons:

  • It's inconvenient. You have to have it with you all the time, everywhere you go.
  • More importantly, there is no quick way to review eating habits. You have to scan each and every entry in one sitting to get an understanding of how you're eating over time.

Paleo Trail solves these problems...and much more.

The Guiding Principles

In addition, a set of Guiding Principles was used to design the site. These were established to create a useful yet simple and compelling diet tracker.

  • Eating foods that support your health day in and day out is what matters most
  • You get complete control in defining your diet guidelines because I don’t know what foods are part of your optimal diet
  • Paleo Trail will fit into your busy lifestyle easily
  • Create a system of accountability and support for lasting lifestyle improvements

The Core Of Paleo Trail Is The Quality Rating System

With the Guiding Principles in mind, I developed the Quality Rating System. It is a fast, flexible system to track and review your eating habits over time.

Quality Rating Guide

Each time you track a meal, you're required to rate the quality of that meal. Did you eat only health-promoting foods and ingredients? Then select a Supreme rating. Was it a Cheat night? Or did your meal fall somewhere in between? With 1 click you can record the quality of an entire meal.

Learn About The Different Ways You Can Use Paleo Trail

Paleo Trail is a versatile tool that can be used in a variety of ways to meet different needs. Below are several scenarios that illustrate different circumstances and how they can be supported by Paleo Trail. I hope you use these stories to determine whether Paleo Trail is right for you.

Fred's Photo Journal

Fred has been Paleo for a couple years, and he’s very familiar with the foods that support his health and those that don’t. He used to be an avid calorie counter, but eating Paleo helped him ditch that habit. He wants to track how cleanly he’s eating over time, but he’s not into entering exact portion sizes of every ingredient into conventional online diet trackers. Fred uses Paleo Trail because he can rate the quality of each meal based on his own diet needs while keeping a photo journal of every meal. Fred also uses the Cheat Foods tracker and Paleo Trail Complete to view detailed info on which cheat foods he consumes the most. It helps him understand his habits and preferences so he can target areas for diet clean up.
